State CIO Receives Inaugural Colorado CIO of the Year ORBIE Award

DENVER — At a virtual event today, Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) Chief Information Officer and Executive Director Dr. Theresa Szczurek was presented with ColoradoCIO’s first-ever 2020 Colorado CIO of the Year® ORBIE® Award in the public sector category. This award spotlights CIOs in seven key categories who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership.

The ColoradoCIO ORBIE winners demonstrate the value great leadership creates. Especially in these uncertain times, CIOs are leading in unprecedented ways and enabling the largest work-from-home experiment in history,” according to Evan McLaughlin, Executive Director of ColoradoCIO. “The ORBIE Awards are meaningful because they are judged by peers - CIOs who understand how difficult this job is and why great leadership matters.”

“Dr. Szczurek is helping to transform the information technology services available to state agencies and all Coloradans. Under her leadership the innovative Colorado Digital IDTM in the myColoradoTM mobile app was released, providing residents with a secure and convenient method for proving their identity from their smartphones. I am thrilled to see Theresa receive this well-deserved recognition,” said Governor Jared Polis.

Szczurek says, “It is an honor to be included among the many talented CIOs. This award reflects the caliber of the great work my team is doing together for the state. Over the next year we will continue our work to expand virtual access to state services while keeping systems secure and operational.”

More details about all nominees are highlighted in a special section of the Denver Business Journal.
